Heroes for the American Red Cross Campaign

HEROES FOR THE AMERICAN RED CROSS 2009 HIGHLIGHTS
Information to come reguarding the 2011 HEROS Campaign.
It's hard to imagine a world without heroes. The American Red Cross trains and deploys heroes everyday. They are the backbone of every hometown and represent the essence and ideal of every humanitarian nation. Heroes touch our lives each day making us feel safe, making us feel proud.
Kathy Herrala worked with staff to organize a new fundraising committee for Marquette County. Their first project was the Heroes for the American Red Cross Campaign for which she served as volunteer chair.
Steve Asplund, Negaunee Firefighter and TV 6 Anchor served as Honorary Campaign Chair.

The February Kick-Off was a great success
*Snowbound Books did a book sale that paid for Kick-Off expenses.
*Local officials signed a March is Red Cross Month Proclamation.
*Steve Asplund and Kathy Herrala geared up volunteers for coming fundraising activities.
*Touch-a-Truck entertained children from the Crayon Club on that snowy morning in the Peter White LIbrary parking lot.
*The Huron Mountain Club donated paczkis. (The event was held on Fat Tuesday)
Ishpeming high School's Key Club raised $600 at their Christmas Dance
Approximately 30 businesses participated in the Red Squares Project. Bonnie Johnston and Colleen Judici serviced this aspect of the campaign. It raised $688 which covered event promotional expenses. After expenses this projected netted $288. The Ishpeming Community Federal Credit Union was the Highest Collecting Business presenting the chapter with a gift of $165.
Kathy Herrala worked with Jackie Boxer to organize a Candle Party and Silent Auction that was held on a Sunday afternoon at the Negaunee Township Hall. Four Hundred fifty-five dollars was raised.
Yvonne Clark invited all of her neighbors to the candle party and proceeded to work the crowd with Marty Fountains Raffle Tickets.
Marty and Yvonne were the biggest ticket sellers. Raffle sales passed their $1000 goal.
Several new churches joined in Suzanne Larson's Soup Hearty Enough for Even a Souper HERO!! Fundrasier. Chris Kibit and Brad Pepin and their students in NMU's Culinary Arts Program added French Onion and Cream of Chicken to the list of soup choices. Proceeds were $2,850. Grace Methodist Church in Marquette was top seller.
Joanie Zbacnik organized Bagging at Econo on Saturday, April 18th. The whole DAT team came out in mass to work the check out stations. Proceeds were $1,240 not counting kick back from receipts. Donations were high in large part because of a milk and produce sale going on that day.
Approximately $500 was raised at Culver's Day of Giving. TJ Bartczak worked with management to organize this year's event. Judy Fry's granddaughter Ashley took the event to a new height as she added the greeting of cars in the drive-through to the indoor regimen. Delta County DAT volunteers and staffer- Jill Thompson had a presence at the opening of the new Culver's store in Escanaba.
Kathy Herrala and Yvonne Clark gave a presentation to the Merry-Mixers which resulted in an early fall brats sale that raised approximately $200.
NMU students: Shayna Lancour and Eric Schaff spearheaded the second annual Chilly Chase 5k at Ludington Park in Escanaba that topped their $1000 goal.
The Mining Journal raised $1500 via ads for its promotional page.
Schoolcraft Counties Quilt Raffle results are in. Volunteers all over the chapter helped Manistique's DAT team raise $865. Local Manistique's resident John Gauthier won the quilt.
Total Raised in Marquette/Escanaba: $10,498.00
Total Raised in Houghton: $1,247.49
Houghton Fire Project - When the office in Hancock burned the WUP volunteers switched their fund-raising gears.
*Jancock Middle School raised $438.13.
*White Pine Spaghetti Supper raised $770.50.
*Designated Donations $800.
As you can see from this overview, the HEROES Campaign surpassed its $10,000 goal and doubled the amount raised in 2008.
The Red Cross can't keep their promise to help our neighbors without all of our financial gifts both large and small. Please join in supporting this year's HEROES for the American Red Cross Campaign by writing a check, contributing to a Heroes project, encouraging your organization to become a HERO, or by becoming a HERO yourself.
